Alvey Benson Mayberry (A.B. as he was called), born November 30, 1878, and Docia Ramsey, born Feb. 13, 1883, were married May 1, 1901.

Originally from Illinois and Arkansas, the Mayberrys came to Claremore in 1917 and lived here until their deaths in 1948 and 1971.

Mr. Mayberry taught school in Illinois and was superintendent of schools in Rogers, Ark., and bookkeeper for the North Wholesale Company in Claremore. Later he was a salesman for Peabody School Supplies in Oklahoma.

They were active members in the First Methodist Church, where Mr. Mayberry was Superintendent of Sunday School for several years. Mrs. Mayberry was active in the Quest Club, Garden Club and WCTU.

They had three children: Ovid (son) born Feb. 15, 1904, died Jan. 24, 1977; Ocie (daughter) born Feb. 23, 1910, died 1987; and Odell (son) born Sept. 22, 1913, died April 1, 1932.

Ocie attended Baker University at Baldwin, KS and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Odell attended OK University.

Ovid married Ocie Denbo November 15, 1928 in Claremore. They had five children, 16 grandchildren and three great, grandchildren. Their children were: Marcellette, born ,1930; Marlene, born ,1932; Marie, born ,1935; and twin sons, Roy and Ray born, 1937.

Ocie Mayberry married U.H. Ortner Sept. 1, 1939. He died Sept. 23, 1969.

The father of Alvey Benson Mayberry was John S. Mayberry and Betty Bridwell

John S. Mayberry was the son of Michael Mayberry and Susan Mann.
Michael was the son of Soloman Mayberry and Virginia Miller.
Solomon, the son of Frederick Mayberry and Priscilla Yokem.

Siblings:
Lecter Ann b 1843 married Robert F. Cook.
Emanuel born 1844 (William E.) married Naimi Elizabeth Hargraves.
Thomas J. born 1852.
Jesse D born 1854 married Mollie Blake.
Chester born 1859 married Bullah MacKensey.
Susan Virginia born 1863 married Joel Hume Hoadley.

 


Originally Built by A.B., the red brick two story house they called home here in Claremore is located at 303 E 4th Street. It's still a stately old home in good condition because of remodeling efforts put forth by its various past owners. I don't know the names of the current owners, but they're doing a good job of keeping it up.
