SAGEEYAH TRAIN TRESTLE

This is a close-up of the Sageeyah train trestle entrance, just north of the Claremore Mound. We used to cross this bridge on foot to get to the other side when we were boys. Stupid. But we were young and reckless. I can remember on more than one occasion hearing the blast of a train whistle while we were on the middle of this bridge. Talk about an adrenalin pumping experience! We either had to hurry up and get to the other side, or jump down to the support piers below. We usually jumped down on the piers so the engineer wouldn’t see us.
I found this 1935 Claremore Progress newspaper article while doing research at the library. This is why I don't recommend doing what we did on this trestle when we were young, unless you're quick on your feet and you have good ears. Of course back when we were crossing it there was no catwalk.
